Homemade Herbal Cough Syrup Recipe, Long-Term Food Storage Friendly

Homemade Herbal Cough Syrup Recipe
Since school started in September, it has become the "Year of Colds" at our house. Every time there's been a virus going around at school, at least one of my kids have brought it home.

After stocking up on store-bought cough syrups and drops and thinking about all of the "stuff" that's going into them, I decided to make some at home using what we had on hand. I started with a cold and flu busting homemade herbal tea. You can use the recipe provided in that post, or use an herbal tea of your choice for this herbal cough syrup.

One of the harshest symptoms of a cold, especially in children, is coughing. It not only irritates the throat, but makes sleeping through the night difficult. A good night's sleep is the most important element to fighting off any kind of cold or flu, so it's important to soothe the symptoms. Honey alone is a great for soothing a cough and can be used to help before bedtime. I have read that honey is believed to work better than over-the-counter cough syrups in children over 2. Add to that herbs that have beneficial properties, and you have a powerful, cold fighting, herbal cough syrup.

Please keep in mind, I am not a doctor, nor am I in a position to administer medical advice. These recipes have been tested by my family and we have survived to talk about it. Use this recipe at your own risk.
