Homemade Hot Cocoa Mix Recipe, Long-Term Food Storage Friendly

Homemade Hot Cocoa Mix Recipe Image

Hot cocoa mix is a staple in our house. It's like coffee for the children, and they like having it when the mood strikes. The past few weeks though, we've been out. I had the best intentions to make more, but simply kept forgetting. This morning though the kids were ready for more hot cocoa mix, and we happened to have the time to make some. Although we've made this recipe several times, I change it a bit each time and never write it down, so it was good to have taste testers there to guide the way.

This recipe uses items you may already have in your pantry or long-term food storage, and is great for those cold, gray days where you're stuck inside. Plus, it comes together quickly.

We had a 28.5 oz. Swiss Miss container from our last hot cocoa purchase, and this recipe filled that perfectly. Feel free to use whatever container you have on hand that will fit approx. 8 cups of hot cocoa mix.

These also make great gifts! Separate hot cocoa mix into individual pint size Mason jars approx. 3/4 of the way to the top and fill the rest with mini marshmallows. Put the lid and ring on the tie with twine and add a gift tag with serving instructions.
